The Benefits of Having Sex More Often
At some point in life, many couples wonder and ask themselves, “What is the average amount of s.e.x that is healthy for their relationship?” or whether they have more or less s.e.x than others? And though the answer is not perfectly clear, s.e.x therapists have said many things about this very topic.
Traditionally, therapists say s.e.x counts for about a quarter of the total happiness of a relationship. Even if men and women do have s.e.x more frequently, it doesn’t mean that they are happier. Researchers from Carnegie Mellon University conducted a study of 64 couples between the ages of 35 and 65. Half the couples were instructed to double their weekly frequency; the other half were given no such instructions.
The couples answered questions about their s.e.x.ual activity and their happiness. Couples who had s.e.x more than once a week didn’t report being any happier, and those who had s.e.x less than once a week reported feeling less fulfilled.
However, every couple is different. The frequency must satisfy both parties. It may take time to figure this out, but putting the focus on intimacy, communication with a partner is more important than worrying about the s.e.x.ual frequency of other couples. It’s also possible that one partner wants to have s.e.x more or less frequently than the other.
Frequency of s.e.x.ual activity can be measure of the general health of a marriage, but there is no fix standard for all couples. Many factors can affect how often people have s.e.x. Relationship status, health, and age can be main reasons. Couples who are in early “honey moon” stage of their relationship may have frequent s.e.x. As the relationship progresses, the might slow down. If they are busy with work or children, they even have no time to think about s.e.x. negotiation.
However, quality really is more important than quantity. The most important thing to remember here is that s.e.x is not everything in relationships. It is a healthy way for couples to bond emotionally. As such, a regular s.e.x life can be an important contributor to overall health and happiness. They just come without any fireworks at the end. As long as both partners in a relationship are open about their feelings and physical needs and both are satisfied with the frequency and quality of their s.e.x.uality, the couple can not only survive, but thrive.
